I have my own opinion, but I want to share this podcast so I can present an external view to mine.
I follow the doctor. Mary Claire Haver since I started investigating permenopause for my thesis. He recently shared this podcast with Dr. Rocío Salas-Whalen, endocrinologist with triple certification.
In this conversation he joins the doctor Mary Claire Haver to clarify doubts and share what women really need to know about Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and science behind sustainable weight loss.
It may seem a superficial concern, to gain weight during this phase of a woman’s life. It may seem that we are still under the dictatorship of the image. But the problem goes further. It’s frustration, it’s inability to understand what’s going on with us, it’s pain, it’s anxiety,…
The doctor. Salas-Whalen, founder of New York Endocrinology and author of the next Weightless book, explains why the agonists of the GLP-1 receptor represent a fundamental change in how we understand and treat obesity: not as a problem of will force, but as a chronic medical condition with determining biological factors, such as hormones, genetics and metabolism.
For women who go through permenopause and menopause, the conversation becomes even more specific. The doctor. Salas-Whalen explains why the reduction of estrogen causes the redistribution of fat to the abdomen, increases visceral fat and makes it almost impossible to lose weight with the same strategies that worked before. It reveals how GLP-1 medicines can address medium-age metabolic changes by protecting the most important: muscle mass.
I summarize the podcast themes:
- · How LPG-1 medicines work: they mimic intestinal hormones to regulate appetite, blood sugar and metabolism.
- · Why 80% of women experience an unexplained weight increase during permenopause and menopause.
- · The difference between subcutaneous and visceral fat, and why it is important for cardiovascular health.
- · Dr. GPS protocol Salas-Whalen:
- GLP-1 + Protein + Force training to prevent muscle loss.
- · Why body composition is more important than BMI or the number on the scale.
- · How much muscle loss is acceptable at thinning (and how to minimize it).
- · The truth about Ozempic’s face.
- · Who should consider GLP-1 and who should not.
- · Common side effects, how to control them and how appropriate medical supervision is.
- · Why these medicines may require long-term treatment for chronic obesity.
For me, the most important thing is to hear how the doctor Salas-Whalen shares his clinical experience treating thousands of patients and addresses viral disinformation that circulates on the Internet. It explains why obesity is a transgenerational disease influenced by genetics, environment, access to food and even child trauma, not personal failures.
